Wildlife in Romania

Romania is a wild haven for flora and fauna. The Carpathian Mountains occupy 55% of Romania’s territory. The Carpathians house the last of Europe’s virgin forests, the home of countless mammals. The Carpathians are home to over 45% of Europe’s brown bear population, grey wolves, European bison and lynx. In addition to these mountains the Danube Delta is a biosphere reserve known for its diversity, with over 1200 species of plant, 60 species of fish and the largest colony of pelicans in Europe.

When to go to Romania

here is something beautiful about every season in Romania, but the best time to go is between April and October. Here is when the weather is best for exploring the Transylvanian countryside and cities.

Spring (Mar-May) is pleasant with warm days and cool nights. Summer (Jun-Aug) can get very hot with extended sunny days, near the coast temperatures can reach close to 40°C. Autumn is dry and cool. Winters (Nov-Jan) can get very cold (-5°C inland) with heavy snowfall.

How to get to Romania

Fly direct from London (3-4 hours) and many European cities to Bucharest.

Flying from the US requires a layover and usually takes around 11-15 hours.
